When you’ve registered and got the agent code for the service you want to use, you can then enrol it onto your HMRC online services account. Once you’ve enrolled a tax service, you will need to activate the service before you can transact on behalf of your client.
How to enrol a service
To enrol a tax service, you must:
- Sign into your HMRC online services account using your Government Gateway user ID and password
- Select ‘Services you can add’ in the left hand menu
- Find the service you want in the list and click on ‘Enrol for service’
- Enter your agent code and postcode when asked
You’ll then see a confirmation screen, confirming that you have enrolled a tax service. To activate the tax service, you’ll need an activation code. You’ll get this in the post from HMRC and it can take up to 7 days to arrive.
How to activate the service
Once you’ve received your activation code in the post, you can activate the service. To do this you must:
- Sign into your HMRC online services account using your Government Gateway user ID and password
- Select ‘Services you can add’ in the left hand menu
- Find the service you want in the list and click on ‘Activate service’
- Enter your activation code when asked
You’ll then be given access to the tax service and it will be added to your HMRC online services account.
